At an election event several months ago, I asked a friend who ran for Mayor if he’s received any support from the El Paso County Republican Committee. He shook his head, “Nope.”
The lady running the event blurted out, “Did you ask for help?”
I could not resist and commented, “They know who the Republican candidates are. Two years ago, I did ask for help - It was my first race and had no clue what they coulda… shoulda… done to get a conservative elected to City Council...”
Just in case, here is a list of party affiliations of candidates from our April 2023 Municipal Elections: The Jeff Crank Show (11 Mar 2023)
I told her, based on the facts that:
El Paso County Republican Committee has not gotten a single caucus candidate past the Republican primary to win the main Nov elections in the last three election cycles (They don’t know how to win elections).
El Paso County Republican Committee left multiple candidates hanging with zero help in last November’s election so that we lost two state house seats and one state senate seat for candidates running for reelection…
I then asked, “…Why bother?”
My personal opinion is that the El Paso County Republican Committee’s ‘Fruit of Division’, as they try to be redder than red Republicans, resulted in no assistance for Conservative candidates in our local Municipal election from their pup tent perspective. Even as Democrats poured money, time, and people resources into Yemi’s campaign. The El Paso County GOP did nothing for conservative candidate.
In turn, not one retired military, conservative, or candidate of Republican roots was elected in a heavily filled military and Republican town. The Developers… got their candidates elected. For the developers it was a business decision. They did not have evil intent, and at this point, only David Donelson is a stellar member of City Council.
As mentioned in Forbes Magazine in May, one of the reasons so many people are leaving Colorado is home prices, infill with ‘Affordable Housing,’ and cost of living. That’s interesting because Yemi is ineffective, really only trying to suck OPM (Other People’s Money) out of their pockets for his woke agendas.
I’m still hoping for a big tent in my vision for our City. I want to be part of a Big Tent Party and execute local action, like The Road’s Springs Initiative, in which we can have differences of opinion but find things to agree on that we can work on together.
A LOT of people ask me if I’m Republican, Conservative, pro life, Independent… and on it goes even after a supposed non-affiliated local municipal race.
Here’s my standard answer:
“I’m a Christ follower, Pro Life, Limited Government, Low Tax voter who occasionally is dumb enough to run for city council.”
They have to look a little deeper to figure out that I’ve voted Republican and been registered Republican since the first time I could vote for a President when I was at Texas Tech - Ronald Reagan in 1980.
Reagan said Republicans will only be successful if they build a Big Tent. I’ve cheerfully embraced that for my professional, military, and Business life. Even my time in Iraq combat with so many awesome US Army troopers.
Right now, five months after the municipal election, the El Paso County Republican Committee is scrambling for donations as the percent of registered Republican voters continues to drop toward 12%… As predicted by Colorado State House Senator Paul Lundeen.
Heading into another Republican election disaster in 2024, the El Paso GOP is too broke, busy ineffectively wringing their hands, and building their pup tents. One would think that El Paso County Republicans would at least try to keep our few remaining conservative elected positions in the conservative column for maybe one more election cycle.
Listened to Glenn Beck’s Interview of Gov Desantis… Awesome candidate who’s actually shown in action, deed, and truth that he’s the REAL DEAL.
Meanwhile, where is my party?
They are building pup tents while trying to be redder than red Republicans.
