Bottom Line Up Front: Our permissive society scurries around justifying its evil and agendas without a thought to protecting Life and Economic Opportunity… Many of those predators being protected by policy and foolishness are drugged up criminals.
Think back to Nov 2012 and Governor Tookenlooper signing Amendment 64. It outlined a statewide drug policy legalizing cannabis.
May of 2013, at more than 70 pages, Senate Bill 13-250 is a re-write of much of the Colorado Uniform Controlled Substances Act (UCSA). It passed out of the Colorado Senate with an overwhelming 34-1 vote and was also signed by Governor Tookenlooper.
Amendment 64 combined with Senate Bill 13-250 to change the classification and applicable penalties of all drug distribution charges.
I almost copied and pasted the details here but none of y’all would have read down to my main point…
Ten years ago, between Nov 2012 and May 2013, Colorado had among the lowest murder and violent crime rates in the United States. Today in 2023, those rates soared past the national average and continue to rise. Colorado Springs saw 54 murders in 2022, more than in any year since 1985. Our state prison population has been reduced 23% over the past decade, across the ten years since Amendment 64 and SB 13-250 were signed, but our serious crime rate increased 42%.
We have problems with CSPD officer retention and recruitment, as does the El Paso County Sherriff’s department, but the deadly serious problem is that we have a permissive, drugged up society walking around robbing and killing each other with greater frequency. People who do not love the truth will be sent an even greater lie and here we are... But I see this as an objective to assault. In the areas of things we can work on as a City, CSPD has a severe shortage in police recruitment and retention within CSPD. Even if CSPD adds more than 100 officers by the end of the year, more officers will be needed. CSPD has 745 officers, but resources continue to be stretched thin. As a Councilman, I want to have a voice, to step up to this table and be part of something great. Motivated additions to the police force will be crucial for public safety goals going forward.
If elected to council, I will strive to sit at this table and be part of working and solving this part of the problem.
