2 Sam 8-9
Acts 19: 1-41
Psalm 32; Psalm 33
In Psalm 33, we find the praises of redeemed people. God is worshiped as the Creator and as providential Ruler. He is praised for his majestic and matchless grace. For the first time musical instruments are plainly mentioned in the text itself. This is one of the orphanic (orphan) psalms because the author's name is not given. It is one in this segment of psalms that David probably wrote.
Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright [Psa 33:1].
We are to rejoice in the presence of God. This is a beautiful psalm of praise. It sounds like David, and it is possible that he could have written it.
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings [Psa 33:2].
The psaltery is a stringed instrument resembling a zither.
Sing unto him a new song: play skilfully with a loud noise [Psa 33:3].
We are to sing a new song unto the Lord. What is that new song? Several psalms speak of a new song that will be sung in the future. I think when the time comes to sing that new song there will be new singers also. I am going to have a new body, and I think I will be able to sing (instead of with my wooden Army voice, today). I hope the Lord will let me sing in heaven. Rev 5:9 says, “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” The psalmist exhorts us to sing a song of praise to God because He is our Creator, but the new song we will sing in heaven will be because the Lord Jesus Christ is our Redeemer. In Rev 14:3 we read, “And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.” A new song will be sung in the future.
Liturgy tells the story of God! (Not loud, vain repetition that just gives me a headache)
