Get ready to have a lighter paycheck. Colorado’s paid family leave program, which voters approved for some reason, begins deducting from your paycheck this year, whether you will use the program or not. The program will collect over $1 billion from taxpayers before a single dime is used for paid leave. Why do you think that is? Do you think a billion dollars will be paid in family leave?
Additionally, the new state minimum wage kicks in this year. The new minimum wage is $13.65 per hour. This will impact consumers and businesses negatively. And, as always, regardless of laws, the real minimum wage is always zero.
Additionally, the Colorado legislature is micro-nannying how you shop. You will now have to pay a punitive tax of $.10 on every plastic bag you use at the store. Here is how various levels of government will divvy up the bag fee they take from you.
There are many new nannying laws that the Colorado legislature passed last year that will cost citizens money, in the worst inflationary period in 40 years. These laws, coupled with inflation, will hit poorest citizens in the state the hardest. So much for looking out for the poor, right Colorado legislature?
Also, on the subject of government looting taxpayers for every dollar possible, a new $29 parks pass fee will be slipped into your vehicle registration renewals in 2023. We understand there will be an opt-out process, but how many folks won’t even know the new fee is there, much less that they can opt-out?
Denver proudly proclaims itself a sanctuary city, allowing all immigrants, who break the law to come into this country, safe residence. They can do this, because when the immigrants come, you get to pay, and they get to preen about how inclusive they are.
Well, it seems that Denver is a sanctuary city in name, and self-congratulation, only. Governor Polis and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, are already scheming to send these people far, far away. Whatever happened to celebrating diversity and inclusion? We can’t make this stuff up, folks.
Also, in a move that is both stunning and brave, Governor Jared Polis is offering paid time off, paid with your tax dollars, of course, to state workers who want to help with this influx of immigrants. They truly believe you are their personal ATM.
If you are a Colorado Springs Utilities ratepayer, your money will be going to support “free” youth sports programs that are not free. Because they think you are their ATM.
The Colorado government is picking winners and losers with your money. In case you were wondering, you are among the losers.
The City of Colorado Springs Government has approved their 2023 budget. This budget is a 6% increase over last year. Do you think you’ll see a 6% increase in quality of services? Will 6% more potholes be filled?
Speaking of increases, your salary may not be increasing, but your water rates likely will.
Wait, we were told children aren’t eating and need taxpayer funded school lunches. Now, we are learning that kids across the nation are obese. Well, which is it, governmental masters of the universe?
“Stop driving and take public transit”, we are told. But, when it’s cold, the buses don’t work. No details on whether the new electric buses worked in the latest cold snap, but we have a pretty good guess.
After much flaming insanity, El Paso County has finally decided to eliminate some problem homeless camps in the county. Expect more dispersed, and hopefully more controllable, fires in the future.
As we are sure you are aware, egg prices are out of control. Part of this is supply issues, and part of this is the new nannying law from the Colorado legislature that prohibits the sale of eggs that come from caged chickens. Local restaurants are seeing a huge cost impact from this. We wouldn’t be surprised to see many independent breakfast restaurants forced to shut down. Is being our mommy and daddy, and micromanaging what we eat, really the proper role of government?
Some folks are trying to shame people who are complaining about the egg prices. One, it’s a huge budget impact. Egg prices have increased dramatically in the past year. Two, it’s not government’s role to mandate our egg-purchasing choices. Three, “cage-free” chickens laying eggs sounds better than it really is. Cage-free chickens live in giant, smelly barns. They don’t live outside in sunny green pastures. Also, the chickens attack, and sometimes kill, each other. Because that’s what chickens tend to do. Ever heard the term “henpecked”? This also describes what the Colorado legislature is doing to us on a regular basis.
State-run universal preschool begins enrolling students this year. It used to be advertised as free, but then Jared Polis was elected so he didn’t have to say “free” anymore.
El Paso County bureaucrats will be publishing a new monthly newsletter. Here is the link to the publication if you’d like to read it.
