Two years ago, 17% of registered city voters voted in the city elections. As my teams Knock doors and hand out flyers across the city, the vast majority of citizens have no idea that a very important election is approaching 4 April. Ballots drop in the mail this week and must be put in Voter ballot boxes by 7:00 PM, 4 April.
Wednesday night, 8 Mar, the Church For All Nations holds the Mayoral Candidate Forum. Click the link for information and I encourage all to go!
I am a limited Government and low tax advocate. My core tenets are to protect life and economic opportunity for our citizens. In that framework, critical to our municipal government, we need a Mayor and City Council focused on public safety, public works, transportation and parks. They must not seek to take on responsibilities that have heretofore been the province of federal or state government or are otherwise not a traditional responsibility of local government. If they do that, collection of OPM (Other People’s Money - our paychecks) through taxes, bonds, and agendas will hammer the health of our city. Colorado Springs residents enjoy among the lowest municipal tax burdens of any city in the country. The city's per capita tax burden averages $800, a third of the average tax burden of residents in our country’s 100 largest cities. We must keep sight of the fact that you can have a very prosperous city and a low tax burden. High tax burdens are ultimately hostile to a city’s growth and prosperity.
I encourage everyone to watch the City Council Candidate Forum video streamed from Church for All Nations.
Watch both and then make wise candidate choices.
